The Prayer of St. Francis of Assisi

The Prayer of St. Francis of Assisi

Lord, make me an instrument of your peace,
Where there is hatred, let me sow love;
where there is injury, pardon;
where there is doubt, faith;
where there is despair, hope;
where there is darkness, light;
where there is sadness, joy.

O Divine Master, grant that I may not so much seek to be consoled as to console;
to be understood as to understand;
to be loved as to love.

For it is in giving that we receive;
it is in pardoning that we are pardoned;
and it is in dying that we are born to eternal life.
- although attributed to St. Francis of Assisi, this prayer first appeared (written in French) in 1912

  1. This is a prayer all the leaders of nations, and all prominent members of the human race, should pray daily, and stop wanting to fight and kill other members of the family of man.

    1. You read my exact thoughts. I memorized this prayer as a young teen. I lived in Northern Indiana and I had a late-night babysitting job. This pray was prayed at the close of day (when networks shut down at night, before cable) on WNDU TV, just before the National Anthem.

  2. This has been my most meaningful prayer for so long. I say it every day and think about its meaning each time. I too believe that our world would be as it was intended when He created it to be if all would take it to heart.
    I look forward to reading your inspirations every day…thank you❣️
