What To Do When Your Whole World Is Falling Apart? 6 Support Ideas To Stop Anxiety and Give You Back Your Life

What if you lost your job, your house burned down, the creditors were closing in, and your marriage had become hellishly confrontational? No, that's not make believe. That's the real life of a real person. How can you maintain a positive outlook under such stress and strain?

Six ways to find joy in the face of overwhelming circumstances:

1. Start by finding things for which to be grateful. Gratitude is crucial to your happiness. If you are reading this article, you are alive and your brain is functioning fairly well. Start your gratitude list with living, breathing, and thinking. Add every blessing, however tiny, to your list. Every moment without pain is a blessing, every bite of food, every bird, tree, and butterfly. Give thanks for every "hello," and every smile.

2. Give thanks, also, for the life lessons. Make a list of what you have learned - yes, a written list. Be grateful for each lesson. Life lessons often come at great cost, but they are priceless jewels.

3. Do you have a support system - friends and family you can confide in? If so, be very grateful, and use that network now. Don't be embarrassed to seek emotional support from those you respect and love. If you don't feel you have a support network, find one in your church or community, and be grateful for those who are willing to be of service.

4. Care for your body and spirit with special attention and gentleness in this time of great challenge. Several times each day, take a moment to breathe deeply and center yourself. Consider beginning yoga or qigong. Eat healthy, keep hydrated. Get enough sleep. If you have trouble sleeping, pay special attention to the rest of the ideas in this article, they will all help you sleep better.

5. Begin each day with a silent walk: Get up a half hour earlier to make time for it. While a walk in a natural setting is ideal, a walk on city streets will do fine. Thoughts, angers, resentments, and fears will form in your mind as you walk. That "mind chatter" is always with us whenever we are not focused on a specific mental activity, and it gets much stronger when we are stressed. Neither resent the mind chatter, nor let it linger. Say "thank you" to each passing thought, anger, resentment, or fear - then release it and return to your silent walk.

6. Release your angers, resentments, and fears by feeding your troubles and fears to the cleansing fire: Light a candle or small fire. Write one trouble or fear on a piece of paper, and feed it to the fire, while releasing the issue to Spirit. Repeat until you can no longer think of another issue that burdens you.

  7. Jonathan I have a lot angry anxiety i hate myself. I prayer every day I feel that God is mad at me and not listening. I cannot forgive my ex who left me for another woman. We got marry in January in chruch by February he want out. It's hard i am in finance in troube plus he forgot about kid. I am angry all time. I read alot of article about forgivenss I just want to pull my hair out

  15. I pray everyday, and sometimes feel that my prayers aren't being answer. Really they are I just have to turn in more and listen. My husband lost his job, we are selling our home that we raised our children in, I think GOD has new plans for us, I don't see it just yet but I'm sure I will soon. Never give up FAITH

Although my gut is in knotts i will find a way through these temporary set backs. My prayers go out to you all. I know what some of you are dealing with. I am 26yrs old, in love once and still in love, with one and only one man, he is the only person i have slept with and the only one i wish to sleep with the rest of my life. he is much older than me, in his fourties, but that is just a number, we fell in love three years ago, was together for almost two years and he left me because of our problems , but have you ever had the gut feeling that this person is your soulmate and that your love feels so good that letting it go would be a big mistake, well this is how i am feeling, he is always easy to give up and call it quits but i have always given 110% and more to him, i have always been there for him and he is sometimes there for me, i once put a tattoo of our initials on my hip, and he loved it , but i removed it wehen we had broken up, i have found my way back to him and will always love him but i wonder if he is good enough for me at times. I love him with all my heart, but get hurt sometimes, i hope someone would pray for us , as i will always fight to be with him....we are two guys in love....

  25. to 26yrs old: If you are happy, great. If you are not happy, do something different. You don't have to follow anyone else's rules, but you do need to take responsibility for all aspects of your own life. Please be clear that you can never expect another person to change. If you don't like the way he is now, you have to move on.

    Thankyou so much for sharing your words of wisdom, pure thoughts and putting it across for the benefit of the world at large. I went through a breakup two months back and as a result failed my exams. I'm dissapointed and demotivated. And i'm also finding it very hard to let go. I chose to end the relationship as i felt i was being taken for granted, made use of, and don't think he ever really cared about me though he said he did. The memories are eating up my head. And i want him to realise that he did alot of things wrong. But i know that i can't force that. I want to tell him so much, how much he hurt me. I would be rly grateful to hear what u have to say. I want to be happy and focuson my studies as i want to succeed. I'm trying....

  38. I lost my little brother to suicide in aug of 2010. I know I have not begun to travel the road of grief but still suffer much pain on some days. I have begun to use your emails as my daily reading in the morning before the kids get up. It helps me to focus and remember each day as a gift instead of a burden. Thank u for being that. My motivation to get up each day and to be true to my brothers memory in being a kinder, more compassionate, loving person as he was in life. Much love to u all in ur struggles.
