Wisdom through Understanding

That is what learning is.
You suddenly understand something you've understood all your life,
but in a new way.
- Doris Lessing

To acquire knowledge, one must study;
but to acquire wisdom, one must observe.
- Marilyn vos Savant

Develop a passion for learning.
If you do, you will never cease to grow.
- Anthony J. D'Angelo

Cultivate a 'learning consciousness,'
in which your experiences, knowledge,
and attitudes expand over time;
in contrast to a 'fixed consciousness,'
in which one stagnates and fails to progress.

  1. Can a man, my loving and devoted father, all of a sudden lose interest in his four children due to alcoholism and the woman he married?
    No matter how hard, I cannot get through to him. Just last year he called to ask me if I thought his wife was beautiful! Mind you, they have been married since I was 12! After 40 years he is asking me this? Now today he is sending me horrible letters stating to please leave him alone. He stated that I should get.my DNA checked out and that I am never nice! He went on to tell me the readon as to why I should have my DNA checked and has been downright abusive in all his "new" letters and everything. I love my dad. I believe it is the alcohol abuse along with his wife as well as his senility that may be causing his outlandish reactions. What scares me most is I am not sure as to why he is taking everything out on me?!
    What do I do? Can I get.my dad back? Or is he too far gone?
    I am so worried that his wife has finally achieved what she intended to do since the day they were married! He is easily prone to suggestion...
    This woman has made it almost.impossible for us children to see him in the past 40 years. Always coming up with events previously accepted on their part, shutting down our chances to just come for visits. I am the baby, daddy's little girl, and when we are togethet all her rules fly out the window and he has no respect for her. Therefore she has completely put an end to me visiting my father. She is not careful when it comes to his health, he is more.of.a burden for her than anything and I am aware.of the danger she is putting my dad in on a regular basis. I am.stressed so much so that I am useless in my own daily activities and whatnot. Do I stay out of her way and ignore this situation? He now claims that the past 40 years of his.life with her have been the best! Then again, he is on speaker.phone and or text, so I am unsure as to just how.much truth is involved!
    Please help! How, what words can I use to bring back memories, our wonderful memories? Have you anything to inspire him to remember what he has lost?

  2. No one can change another person - even their own father. One can only create change in themself. Look to yourself, and to those who support you. Look for other sources for what you have been feeling could only come from your father. May you be blessed with strength and joy.
