How do You View the World?

Everything that can be invented has been invented.
- Charles H. Duell (Commissioner, US Patent Office, in 1899) [attributed]

Who the hell wants to hear actors talk?
- Harry Warner (of Warner Bros), 1927

640K ought to be enough for anybody.
- Bill Gates, 1981 [attributed]

For some of us, the world appears to provide only a fixed quantity of each resource - a limited amount of food, of money, of love, of success, of appreciation. In this world-view, each of us is in competition with each other human being for these limited resources. The way to gain more is to beat out others, to be the fastest, sharpest, hardest working - to get to the goal first and grasp the money, the stuff, the "best" romantic partner, the promotion, before anyone else. In this view, life has winners and losers, and one should strive to be a winner.

For others, life is unlimited. Their world expands with the generosity, compassion, inventiveness, and service that they contribute. In this world-view, money that is spent or given away returns multiplied. The more love that is given, the more love returns. The more a helping hand is given, the more hands are strengthened and empowered to help. In this view, we can help each other to all be winners. We can all have food, and jobs, and love, and happiness.
