Eskimo Saying: Yesterday is ashes. Tomorrow is green wood. Only today does the fire burn brightly.

Yesterday is ashes. Tomorrow is green wood. Only today does the fire burn brightly.
- Eskimo Saying

There are so many ways of saying, "Live in the moment." Life can only be lived in this instant. Why suffer from memories of the past, or agonize over fears regarding the future. This doesn't mean not to plan for tomorrow, just not to fear the future.

  1. I love this Eskimo saying. It works for people who live with regrets and "should have" and it works for those who procrastinate their closely held dreams away. Today and today. Thank you.

  2. This is a wonderful message. However , the term Eskimo is not the appropriate term to describe our northern indigenous peoples. The correct word is Inuit.

  3. "Eskimo" IS an appropriate word to discribe a certain nationallity of people. It's even in
the Webster's big dictionary. "Inuit" is NOT !

  4. Double-check the date on your dictionary. Inuit is in there now. In Canada - Inuit is the work the Inuit use. Eskimo is what others called them. They prefer their own name, as do the Aleut. Calling them "eskimo" is akin to calling Native Americans "redskins."
